Science Learning, Instruction, and Assessment
Question 1: Explain how inquiry based learning can be used in conjunction with other scientific educational learning theories
Answer 1: Inquiry based learning can be used alongside many other educational learning theories. It is a part of multiple intelligence work because it reinforces the fact that all students learn differently and provides them with opportunities to learn in the best way for them. Cooperative learning can also be used in conjunction with it as it sometimes relies on working with groups or pairs and fostering a positive rapport amongst group members in order for everyone to succeed. Finally, using inquiry method is also a key tool for how learning occurs in constructivism because the personal experiences are a part of how we construct our idea of the world around us. New experiences may cause us to change our mental rules and our preconceived notions may be altered.
There are lots of good resources about Science that you can find available.
Question 2: Describe how to set up Learning Centers in the classroom.
Answer 2: When gathering ideas for a Learning Center, it is important that the topic is chosen carefully. It should be used to complement a topic already studied in the classroom. Then all the resources available should be gathered, including videos, books, with as much variety in the format of the texts as possible. Once all the resources are gathered, possible activities should be planned and developed, requiring that the tasks are completed independently and with the objective of the task clear. Enough time should be provided so that the students are able to complete the tasks within an acceptable amount of time. Next, create a self-grading check sheet so that the students are able to record their progress through the learning centers. As soon as everything has been put together it is time for the students to complete the tasks. The final step is to complete an evaluation, including a self-evaluation completed by the students.
Question 3: What is scientific literacy?
Answer 3: The tenets of scientific literacy include the following abilities:Find or determine answers to questions derived from everyday experiences.Describe, explain, and predict natural phenomena.Understand articles about science.Engage in nontechnical conversation about the validity of conclusions.Identify scientific issues underlying national and local decisions.Pose explanations based on evidence derived from one's own work.
