Answer 1: The House Committee on the Judiciary was created in 1813. The committee has jurisdiction over the judiciary, both civil and criminal judicial proceedings, administrative practices and procedures, the apportionment of Representatives, bankruptcy, mutiny, espionage, and counterfeiting, civil liberties, constitutional amendments, criminal law enforcement, federal courts and judges, local courts in U.S. territories and possessions, immigration policy, interstate compacts, cases against the U.S. government, members of Congress, national jails, patents, the Patent and Trademark Office, copyrights, trademarks, succession to the office of President, protection of trade and commerce against illegal obstacles and monopolies, revision and codification of statutes, the boundaries of states and territories, and activities that are considered treacherous and threatening to the security of the U.S. Subcommittees include the Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property, the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims, the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law, the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, and the Subcommittee on the Constitution.

Answer 2: The House Committee on Resources has jurisdiction over issues pertaining to fisheries and wildlife, forest reserves and national parks, forfeiture of land grants and alien ownership, the Geological Survey, international fishing agreements, interstate compacts related to allocation of water for irrigation, irrigation and reclamation, Native Americans, insular possessions of the U.S., military parks, battlefields, national cemeteries, the establishment of monuments and memorials, mineral land laws and claims, mineral resources on public land, mining interests, mining schools and laboratories, marine affairs, oceanography, petroleum conservation on public lands, preservation of prehistoric ruins, public lands, U.S. government relations with Native Americans and Native American tribes, and the trans-Alaska oil pipeline. Subcommittees include the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, the Subcommittee on Fisheries and Oceans, the Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health, the Subcommittee on National Parks, and the Subcommittee on Water and Power.

Answer 3: The House Committee on Rules has two subcommittees. The first subcommittee is the Subcommittee on the Rules and Organization of the House. This subcommittee has responsibilities concerning issues regarding the relationship between the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as issues regarding the relationship between Congress and the Judicial Branch. The Subcommittee on the Rules and Organization of the House also has responsibilities related to the internal operations of the House of Representatives. The second subcommittee is the Subcommittee on the Legislative and Budget Process. This subcommittee has responsibilities concerning issues regarding the relationship between Congress and the Executive Branch. The Subcommittee on the Legislative and Budget Process also has responsibilities related to the Congressional budget process.
